Is Escorting Illegal?
Sex work is the oldest profession in the world. Nonetheless, sex work is illegal in South Africa. The South African cabinet seeks to change the law, as Justice Minister Ronald Lamola recently published for comment a bill that seeks to decriminalize sex work.
The bill would repeal the Sexual Offences Act and Section 11 of the Criminal Law Amendment Act.
Unfortunately, "The bill follows a two-step approach to sex work. It does not decriminalise and regulate the industry at once. It deals with decriminalisation only, with regulation to follow later."
At , we see this approach as a wasted opportunity to improve the working conditions of sex workers in the country, by failing to regulate the industry. Mandatory health insurance for this industry would have a huge impact on the spreading of HIV, Tuberculosis and various other sexually transmitted diseases. We are happy to see, Human Rights Watch also believes that decriminalizing sex work enhances sex workers’ legal protection and their ability to access key rights, such as justice and healthcare.
As an escort agency, we follow this develop with interest, even though our luxury companions are not sex workers. One can also see this from the perspective of my body, my choice, a feminist slogan for bodily autononomy. This topic
